Whether you’re cutting or coloring, changing up your hairstyle can be both a fun and invigorating experience. The best aspect of changing your hair is getting to decide what style best suites you.
In the past, I preferred the best hair salon in town (meaning the most expensive). In theory, I thought those types of establishments would get the job done correctly. Not the case, in fact, no professional hair salon color has been able to measure up to the L’oreal color I use from Sally’s Beauty Supply. I then get the color applied on my hair by Lemon Tree, where they are not only great at hair, but personable as well (with the cost of under fifty dollars). I finally have been able to achieve the color magenta.
Note: be careful when showering because the color does fade. Use a 30 or 40 volume and you’re guaranteed to go from a medium brown to a magenta color at least until week four or five approaches (then of course, you have to redo the color).
It’s as if I was a new person– vibrant, young and ready for anything. I find that red simply works best for me when I want a change. However, some women seem to think that blonde is always the answer.
Do blondes have more fun? I have tried it all–even going from a darker color to blonde by using bleach (which can destroy your hair). It isn’t easy achieving that Cameron Diaz look. So “fun” aside, going blonde is no simple task.
Note: Do not try to achieve a celebrity color. It’s almost impossible to get the same color or hairstyle as a celebrity (or at least it was for me).
Angelina Jolie just changed her hair color for her newest film (quite frankly she will look good in any style) and is now a blonde, which was a dramatic change for her. There’s nothing wrong with a dramatic hair change but the resources celebrities have are not that of the average woman.
More about color: dark black dye is very hard to get out of your hair if you’re looking to change colors. You have two options: you can either let your hair grow out or try to put a color over it. As a last resort, and drastic third option, you can cut your hair off (remember if you have long locks you can always donate them as well).
Hair color aside, the texture of your hair is a choice as well. Curly, wavy, straight–the list is endless. You can use legitimate products like a relaxer to achieve straight hair or get a perm for curly hair. However, you can always resort to a flat iron or curling rods.
Don’t forget length: if you decide to go with short hair, the upkeep will be simple, no time spent on your hair at all, and easy to brush through. If you decide to keep your hair long then you have work to do.
Cutting your hair and changing the texture can feel a lot more permanent than simply changing the color. I recommend toying with color before doing anything else. With that being said, when coloring your hair you must get a good shampoo to use. I recommended for colored hair, to use a product through your salon that has no sulfate. As for a conditioner, I use Bed Head, it straightens my hair and was recommended to me by a friend of mine from South Africa/Germany.
I did get a recent haircut–not a celebrity haircut, just an everyday haircut, which I absolutely love. Sometimes it’s best to stick to the basics with a touch of vibrant color. However, as time has progressed I have went back to my natural hair color. I think it’s time to break out the magenta again, and I can’t wait to show you all the result!
